- Air India AI 2772: Kolkata (CCU) → Mumbai (BOM) diverted to Vadodara (BDQ)
Passengers travelling to or from Mumbai and Pune have been advised to monitor real-time flight updates and allow extra travel time as weather conditions continue to affect operations.
Mumbai’s relentless monsoon continues to disrupt flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), with airlines issuing fresh travel advisories on July 6 as delays and schedule changes persist.
In its latest update, Akasa Air said, “Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Pune and Goa some flights across our network may be delayed,” urging passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
Similarly, IndiGo warned that “Bad weather over Mumbai may impact flight schedules,” adding that it is closely monitoring the situation and assisting passengers.
The disruption follows a severe impact on operations a day earlier, when CSMIA emerged as the most disrupted airport globally on Flightradar24.
On July 5, at least four flights were cancelled and 13 diverted due to adverse weather conditions. Data showed an average delay of around 50 minutes, with nearly 22% of flights affected.
According to an official statement from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, runway operations were temporarily suspended for an hour between 10:17 am and 11:17 am on July 5 after heavy rainfall, reduced visibility, and gusty winds of up to 42 knots impacted safety.
The India Meteorological Department has placed Mumbai under red alert, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall along with strong winds. Authorities have warned that such conditions could continue to impact aviation, road and rail networks across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Mumbai has already recorded significantly above-normal rainfall this season, intensifying pressure on infrastructure and transport systems. The ongoing spell marks one of the more severe phases of the monsoon so far, with repeated weather alerts and disruptions reported over the past few days.
Airlines have advised passengers to allow extra travel time, monitor real-time updates, and avoid unnecessary travel unless essential, as weather-related delays are expected to continue.
