IndiGo unveils ‘Lite’ fare for cabin baggage-only travellers; here’s what it means

IndiGo has introduced a new economy class fare option called ‘IndiGo Lite’ for passengers travelling with only cabin baggage. The airline said the new option is designed to give customers more flexibility and control by allowing them to pay only for the services they need.

The new fare will be available for bookings on IndiGo’s official website, mobile app and contact centre from July 1, for travel starting July 15. It will be offered on both domestic and international non-stop routes for one-way, round-trip and multi-city journeys for both adult and child passengers.

The Lite fare will have a lower base fare, an automatically assigned seat and a cabin baggage allowance of up to 7 kg. Passengers can customise their travel by adding optional services such as check-in baggage, preferred seats, meals and priority services like Fast Forward.
These add-ons can be purchased through IndiGo‘s website or at the airport up to one hour before departure. Those travelling on the Lite fare will continue to earn and redeem IndiGo BluChip loyalty points.

The introduction of IndiGo Lite expands the airline’s 6E Ways to Fly offerings, which also include Saver, Flexi Plus, IndiGo UpFront, IndiGoStretch and Stretch+, giving passengers more options based on their travel needs and budget. Customers can choose the fare that best matches their requirements and book the Lite fare through IndiGo’s website, app or contact centre.

According to Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer, IndiGo, the new fare is intended for travellers who prefer to travel light and prefer to pay only for the services they need. Commenting on the launch, Singh said the airline continues to expand its product offerings to meet the changing needs of different types of travellers. “IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio,” he added.
