Apple Brings Tap And Pay Feature To This Country: Why Is It Not Available In India?

Apple pay uses the tap and pay like Samsung Pay which negates the use of external hardware and uses iPhones as the terminal.

Apple is making iPhones the ideal payment terminal for shopkeepers and now the feature is available for iPhone users in Singapore from this month onwards. The tool called tap and pay is another way to use Apple Pay and you can do it straight from the iPhone rather than getting an additional hardware unit to support the service.

Tap and Pay has been available since 2022 when it was introduced in the US and since then its rollout includes other regions, but just like Apple Pay this feature has been missing in India even today.

Apple Tap And Pay Feature: How It Works

Apple’s tap and pay feature is a lot like Samsung Pay that is available on Galaxy phones for users in many countries. You don’t need separate hardware as the phone itself acts as the terminal for payment. Similarly, tap and pay for iPhones negates the use of a card and supports contactless payment via NFC and gets better security with PIN authentication along with better privacy.

Tap and pay is now supported in over 50 countries and you need the iPhone XS or later models. The shops using the service just need to open the app on their iPhone, enter the sale and let the buyer pay by tapping on the top of the iPhone.

Apple Pay Launch In India Still Awaited: Why The Delay?

Apple has seen the iPhone sales go up quite dramatically in India over the last few years, and even its latest models sell big. The company has even set up its own stores, with the Noida outlet the recent addition.

So why is Apple Pay not available in India even today?

We don’t have a definite answer but looking at the importance of the market, it would be the right time for the tech giant to officially make its payment service available, of course, with the help of local banks and payment partners. India is one of the most popular regions with regards to digital payments thanks to UPI and Apple Pay has all the attributes to become a success in the country.
