Zubeen Garg’s last film Roi Roi Binale continues to create history, drawing massive crowds beyond Assam. The film opened to houseful shows in two theatres in Shillong, with fans from across the Northeast flocking to watch the legendary artist’s final performance.

“Zubeen was a natural actor; he didn’t need to act,” said Patricia Mukhim, senior journalist from Shillong, after watching the film. “I loved every moment of it. It felt as if he knew his fate! He loved the sea deeply, and finally, he sleeps his eternal sleep in its embrace. The film touched my heart — I have never seen such a marvelous performance, so effortlessly natural.”

The “Zubeen craze” has transcended state boundaries, reaching Meghalaya with overwhelming love and admiration. Despite continuous rain on Sunday, fans thronged the theatres in Shillong to witness their beloved icon on screen one last time.

In Shillong, the film is being screened in three shows daily at the Anjali and Beeju cinemas.

“I felt as though he was right there with us,” shared a young fan after the screening. “The film makes you feel his presence, but as it ends, you realize he’s gone — and that brings deep sadness. We now want full justice for Zubeen, at any cost.”

Another emotional viewer added tearfully, “Zubeen is truly our heartthrob. He took the Northeast to the international stage. Joi Zubeen Da! He will always live in our hearts.”

First Day’s Collection Creates Record

The film has also achieved a remarkable box office feat — recording around Rs 5 crore in just two days, a rare milestone for the Assamese film industry. Official sources confirm the opening day collection alone was Rs 2.5 crore.
