Businesswoman Mrs. Nita M. Ambani showered praise on the Indian team for their remarkable campaign in the 2025 Women’s World Cup and wished them luck for the tournament final against South Africa at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. In an emotional message aired during the mid-innings break, she said the clash was more than a cricket match, offering inspiration to girls around the country to chase their dreams.

This is the third time India have reached the final of the Women’s World Cup, but this arguably is their best chance of going all the way. The team has shown maturity and quality that was not tangible in the previous editions, considering the women’s game is still at a developing stage in the country.

“Just so proud that our girls are playing the World Cup, and that, too, on our Indian soil,” Mrs. Ambani said on Star Sports. “They have played with all their heart and so much courage. And look at the support today — I mean, fans have waited for hours in spite of the rain, and the stadium is packed. They’re all there to cheer the girls’ team. And I believe Rohit (Sharma) and Sachin (Tendulkar), the legends of cricket, are also here to support our girls,” she added.

“I think for every girl or parent watching this game, it says, ‘Girls can dream big, chase their dreams with conviction and hard work. And dreams do come true.’ On the field and off the field… And for my girls today, I just want to say, believe in yourself, believe in the team, go out there, enjoy yourself, and you will make us proud,” she said.

India scored 298/7 in the first 50 overs after being put into bat. Shafali Verma’s composed 87 and a solid 104-run opening stand with Smriti Mandhana (45) gave the hosts a strong start. But the innings lost momentum after Jemimah Rodrigues (24) and Harmanpreet Kaur (20) fell cheaply. South Africa fought back through Ayabonga Khaka (3/58) and Chloe Tryon (1/46) on a slowing pitch.

Deepti Sharma (58 off 58) and Richa Ghosh (34 off 24) added quick runs late to push the total to 298/7.
