Priyamani is coming back as Suchi in Family Man Season 3.

As The Family Man 3 gears up for release, Priyamani is back as Suchi, a character who continues to spark debates and memes in equal measure. In an exclusive conversation with CNN-News18 Showsha, the actress opened up about returning to the world of Suchi after years, teasing major changes in her on-screen dynamic with Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikanth, and addressing the infamous “Lonavala mystery” that still has fans talking. She also shared her thoughts on why viewers love flawed male characters but struggle to forgive flawed women, and revealed what it’s really like working with Bajpayee on and off set.

Excerpts from the interview:

How was it like stepping into Suchi’s world after all these years?

Yes, there was a long gap but it never felt like I had been away. Right from the look test, my whole body language and mood changed to being Suchi. It felt great.

Can we expect more from Suchi this season?

Yes, we can expect a little more of Suchi. The dynamics are going to be completely different in this season in terms of family and everything.

This whole Arvind-Suchi dynamic has become a pop culture now. Will we get a closure finally on what exactly happened in Lonavala?

(laughs) We will leave that to the audience.

Audience haven’t really forgiven Suchi, they call her ‘the most wicked wife on OTT’. Does it bother you?

No, it does not. I think I have done something right for them to say something like this. They must have resonated with my performance that they started hating Suchi. But let me tell me, I am not like that in real life.

Do you think audience glorify flawed male characters in cinemas but are quick to judge and hate flawed female characters?

In Family Man, yes, maybe that’s true. But I don’t think that’s true in general. They quickly identify with the character who is flawed and who is not. I, on the other hand, had so many people come up to me to say that they resonated with Suchi when Family Man Season 1 came out. They especially liked the fact that my character spoke about mental health. In Season 2, Suchi and Srikanth had gone to a marriage counselor which many people liked and told me that such subjects should be highlighted more where therapy and couple counselling is needed. Basically just to talk about it.

How’s it working with Manoj Bajpayee?

He is a terrific actor. He is a lovely person to talk to and he loves gossip absolutely. He has gelled so well with the kids too, he is their best friend now. They call him up for any advice and even confide in him with stuff they won’t tell their real parents. He is that close with them. Every time we see Dhriti (Ashlesha), we make fun of her. Manoj keeps pulling her leg saying, ‘ab to ye heroine ban gayi hai, hmare liye dates kaha degi’. He calls her his own daughter. Ashlesha also respects us both a lot. We are great friends. I have told her that in future if she finds a boy, we will say yes and then only will she marry. She says ‘hundred percent’. When she meets someone, she calls me for advice.
