As the Halloween season continues, movie lovers have an exciting range of films to catch on the big screen this weekend. From supernatural thrillers and emotional dramas to historical controversies and beloved re-releases, there’s something for every kind of cinema enthusiast. Here’s a look at what’s lighting up theatres near you:

1. Thamma

Director Aditya Sarpotdar returns with another thrilling addition to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe in Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. Released during the Diwali weekend on 21 October, the film continues to perform strongly at the box office. Set in the same eerie yet humorous world as Stree, Bhediya and Munjya, Thamma ventures into the fascinating realm of vampires.

The story follows a journalist, played by Ayushmann, who unexpectedly becomes entangled in the dangerous power struggle between two powerful vampires portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Packed with suspense, sharp humour and supernatural intrigue, Thamma seamlessly blends scares and satire, making it a must-watch for fans of horror with a twist of comedy.

2. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat

For those drawn to passionate love stories filled with intensity and emotion, Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa star in the poignant romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. The film centres on Vikramaditya, a gifted artist whose deep affection for Adaa, a free-spirited woman who believes love should be freeing rather than binding, soon turns into obsession. What begins as an enchanting romance slowly unravels into a gripping tale of desire, insecurity and self-destruction.

With standout performances by Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar and Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, the movie beautifully captures the highs and lows of love — how it can inspire art, yet also destroy the artist. Once titled Deewaniyat, the film was renamed Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat earlier this year and continues to receive praise for its emotional depth and haunting storytelling.

3. The Taj Story

The Taj Story, directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, takes a controversial turn as it delves into the historical mysteries surrounding the construction of the Taj Mahal. Produced by CA Suresh Jha under Swarnim Global Services Pvt. Ltd., the film features a talented ensemble cast including Paresh Rawal, Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das and Sneha Wagh.

Released on 31 October 2025, this Hindi-language film presents an alternative interpretation of India’s most iconic monument, exploring political, religious and cultural questions that have sparked debate for centuries. While its narrative has stirred controversy, The Taj Story undeniably stands out for its bold storytelling and willingness to challenge established historical perspectives.

4. Devdas

The grand cinematic masterpiece Devdas has made a glorious return to theatres — much to the delight of fans of Shah Rukh Khan and timeless romance. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the 2002 film is a visual and emotional spectacle, portraying the tragic love triangle between Devdas (Shah Rukh Khan), Paro (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit Nene). Renowned for its breathtaking sets, soulful music and heart-wrenching performances, Devdas remains one of Indian cinema’s most unforgettable tales of love and loss. The re-release offers audiences, especially those who missed it on the big screen.

5. Shuddh Desi Romance

If you’re in the mood for something light-hearted yet meaningful, Shuddh Desi Romance is back in theatres, bringing with it a refreshing look at modern relationships. Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, the film stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor, with a charming performance by Rishi Kapoor in a supporting role.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Jaipur, the story explores the evolving concepts of love, live-in relationships and commitment in small-town India. With witty dialogues, relatable characters and a breezy narrative, Shuddh Desi Romance strikes a chord with today’s youth who question traditional notions of marriage and fidelity.
