Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech’s love story wasn’t love at first sight. The cricketer revealed it took him 3.5 years to convince Hazel to meet him.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actor Hazel Keech have been married for almost a decade now, and together they share two adorable children. But their love story wasn’t the kind that bloomed overnight — it was a long, patient pursuit that tested Yuvraj’s persistence and sense of humour.

Appearing together on The Kapil Sharma Show, Yuvraj and Hazel opened up about the early days of their relationship, and the charming — and often hilarious — struggle it took before the two finally got together.

“She Didn’t Care To Show Me Her Face For 3.5 Years”

Yuvraj recalled the first time he saw Hazel at a friend’s party. “She didn’t care to even show me her face for about 3.5 years,” he said, laughing. “I requested her so many times, but she just wouldn’t meet me. Finally, when she agreed, I saw her walking like a man, and that actually impressed me! I thought, this girl is different. Then I looked at what she was wearing and decided to just focus on her cute face.”

Despite his instant fascination, winning Hazel’s attention turned out to be tougher than any cricket match he had ever played. “When I texted her saying I was sick, she replied, ‘Good luck!’ That’s when I realised she’s extremely weird and I stopped talking to her for a while,” he admitted.

A Long Wait, A Facebook Add, And A Folded Hands Emoji

Fate, however, had its own plans. “I found out she was friends with one of my friends,” Yuvraj said. “I told him to stay away from her because one day, I’m going to marry this girl!” he joked.

Years later, Hazel finally added him on Facebook. “I immediately sent her a folded-hands emoji and thanked her for accepting my friend request after 3.5 years. That’s when she agreed to meet me,” he shared.

Even then, the romance took time to blossom. “After that meeting, she made me wait for another year before saying yes,” Yuvraj said with a smile.

Hazel, on her part, revealed she wasn’t initially interested in the cricketer. “Once, he asked me out for coffee, and I said yes — then switched off my phone,” she said, laughing. When Kapil Sharma asked when she finally fell for him, Hazel replied, “I don’t know. Maybe the day he proposed. I thought, okay, he seems decent — I can think about it.”

Yuvraj recalled the proposal with his signature wit: “When I knelt down, I forgot which finger to put the ring on. I had to ask her — ‘Which one?’ and she said, ‘Left!’ We spent five minutes figuring it out.”

“My Mom Said, ‘I’m So Happy You’re Marrying A Man!’”

When asked if his mother approved of Hazel, Yuvraj quipped, “My mom loved her. She said, ‘I’m so happy you’re marrying a man!’”

The couple got engaged in 2015 and tied the knot in 2016 in a grand Sikh-Hindu wedding. Hazel also embraced Sikhism after marriage, adopting the name Gurbasant Kaur.

Even Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, fondly spoke about his daughter-in-law, saying in an interview, “When he turned 38, I told him to find his own partner. I just requested him to ‘change the breed’ — I wanted an Irish or English girl in the family. Then Hazel came into our lives. She’s not my daughter-in-law; she’s my daughter.”

From a three-and-a-half-year wait to a fairytale wedding, Yuvraj and Hazel’s story is proof that sometimes, love isn’t about instant sparks — it’s about persistence, patience, and a bit of laughter along the way.
