Satish Shah was 74 when he passed away.
The Indian entertainment industry is in grief after renowned actor Satish Shah died on 25 October at the age of 74. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news of his death and revealed that the actor died due to kidney failure. Satish’s long-time friend and filmmaker, David Dhawan, revealed that his health had started getting worse after he got a kidney transplant.
David Dhawan told the Hindustan Times, “I have such great memories with him. He used to get his dialysis done from Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai. If I would be shooting in Mehboob Studios, I used to ask him ‘aayega?’ he used to come and meet everyone on set! He was perfectly okay, but the problem started after the kidney transplant. He was in Kolkata too for some time.”
The filmmaker said, “Usko yaad karke hanste the hum sab FTII wale. His friend circle was very big. We did meet in the recent times, par phone pe bahot gappe maarte the. He would keep sending me some random message or cartoons, I would ask ‘kya kar raha hai Satish!’ He had stopped working also some time back, he said ‘bahot kaam kar liya ab araam karna hai’ I said ‘meri film main shuru karunga, terko lena hai usme’ He had replied ‘haan teri wali kar lunga’.”
“You don’t even know how close we were. We passed out from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) together. Forget the number of films we did, we knew each other for 50 years! I did my editing, he did acting. This news is a shock,” David Dhawan expressed.
Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed that Satish Shah got a kidney transplant done to take care of his ailing wife. He said, “Satish and Madhu have always been extremely warm and lovable. We saw to it that we invited them to the premieres of all our films. They used to come for the screenings, the parties. They were always there in our list of guests and invitees. We couldn’t celebrate anything without them.”
“And now, I’m wondering how we can celebrate events without him! Unfortunately, even Madhu isn’t well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish got his kidney transplanted. He wanted to extend his life so that he could take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he underwent a bypass surgery, which was successful,” the actor concluded.
