Actor Kritika Kamra has evaluated the rapid pace of her career in the over-the-top (OTT) industry, pointing out that when one commits to major projects, there will always be a long wait between releases. She noted in an interview with the Hindustan Times that while delays can be unsettling for actors, they become reasonable when working on large-scale projects.

“There’s been a bit of a wait before releases, which sometimes can be difficult for us actors,” she said, adding that her recent web series Saare Jahan Se Accha was a hit due to consistent word-of-mouth.

Anticipation for ‘Matka King’

Kamra is also preparing for the next series, Matka King, directed by renowned filmmaker Nagraj Manjule and co-stars Vijay Varma. A different interview with IANS claimed that the show is a realistic portrayal of 1960s Mumbai, with a cotton-trading businessman inventing the gambling game “matka” and upending an elite system.

“You want your work to reach the people, especially when you have waited very long… But that’s the thing when you’re part of ambitious projects. One thing you know is that the wait is going to be long,” Kamra said.

Quality over speed

Kamra makes a deliberate decision to choose her roles carefully and to take her time. “The growth has been slow and steady for me, and I cannot complain, because that’s how I like it,” she told the outlet.

“The growth has been slow and steady for me, and I cannot complain, because that’s how I like it also. I am in this for the long haul,” Kamra said.

She also mentioned that often simplicity and authenticity are sufficient to create a fascinating story; large explosions and plot twists are not always necessary.

“I want to do this for a long period. I want to make choices that I am really sure o,f and I don’t mind if they take some time to get me the gratification,” the actress added.

The bigger picture

Kamra has made a progressive transition from television to digital channels. She has established herself in the digital community with previous series including Hush Hush, Bambai Meri Jaan, and Gyaarah Gyaarah, but she acknowledges that she gets anxious during the breaks between shows.

The arrival of ‘Matka King,’ a more ambitious series with a famous director and cast, marks both a step forward and an acknowledgement that good things frequently take time.
