A Hollywood Comeback
Johnny Depp’s major studio feature film in Hollywood, which is Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, is his most recent major Hollywood studio film after the 2019 film Waiting for the Barbarians and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. After going through a public defamation case, Depp stopped taking roles in Hollywood projects.
The trial ended in June 2022 with the decision that found Amber Heard defaming Johnny Depp in all three counts, based on the 2018 op-ed she had written. Following appeals, the two ex-spouses decided in a settlement that Amber would give Johnny $1 million, out of which he would give to different charities.
A New Direction for A Christmas Carol
With a fresh horror and supernatural perspective, director Ti West takes on the old story. The script for the film is written by Nathaniel Halpern, and he is known for creating the sci-fi series Tales from the Loop. Emma Watts is the producer for the film, while Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman are the executive producers.
On November 13, 2026, the filming of Ebenezer: A Christmas … will be available for the audience in theatres, putting it up against a yet-to-be-named Blumhouse horror project and a week before Lionsgate’s star-studded Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping. With its star-studded cast and melancholy reimagining of the beloved classic, the movie is scheduled to be the centre of attraction at this year’s holiday season.
