Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to perform strongly at the box office through the Diwali period. The film collected approximately Rs. 13.50 crore on Tuesday, taking its total gross in India to Rs. 620 crore. In overseas markets, the film has earned an additional Rs. 108 crore (USD 12.20 million), pushing its worldwide box office total to Rs. 728 crore.

Now in its third week, Kantara: Chapter 1 has brought in Rs. 66 crore in the first five days alone. While the main Diwali festivities have concluded, the post-holiday boost is expected to continue for the next couple of days, especially with a major holiday today in its home state of Karnataka The third-week total is projected to reach around Rs. 88-90 crore, which would raise the domestic tally to approximately Rs. 640 crore by Thursday.

With this momentum, the film remains well on track to surpass Chaava as the highest-grossing film of the year. A final total of over Rs. 700 crore now looks achievable, though Kantara: Chapter 1 will need to maintain steady collections through its fourth week to reach that milestone.

Building on this momentum, Hombale Films has announced that Kantara: Chapter 1 will release in English on October 31. This marks a major first – an Indian film getting a full English-dubbed theatrical release worldwide.

Kantara Chapter 1, directed by Rishab Shetty, is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which was both a critical and commercial success. Kantara: Chapter 1 is set in the 4th Century AD, unraveling the sacred origins of the mystical land of Kantara. This chapter dives deep into its rich mythology, age-old conflicts, and divine interventions, weaving a saga of folklore, faith, and fire, born from the very soil of the land. The film features Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, PD Satish Chandra and Prakash Thuminad.

News18 Showsha gave the film 3.5 stars. An excerpt from the film read, “In a time when stories rooted in Indian culture are winning big at the box office, Kantara’s prequel needed a special hinge to avoid being labelled as ‘just another folklore film’. The heart of Kantara: Chapter 1 is its music (B Ajaneesh Loknath) and visual teams. The background score and the use of classical music to drive scenes are brilliant. Similarly, the cinematography (Arvind S Kashyap) and the VFX teams deserve all the accolades for creating a texturally rich film with believable effects.”
