The team behind Dies Irae, director Rahul Sadasivan’s upcoming horror thriller starring Pranav Mohanlal, has issued an appeal to fans requesting them not to circulate or create unofficial posters of the film. The filmmakers emphasised that such materials could misrepresent the intended tone and aesthetic of the project.
Production House Issues Statement
On Saturday, All Night Shifts, one of the film’s producers, addressed the issue through its official social media handles. The production banner wrote, “We’re grateful for the love, enthusiasm and creativity around #Diesirae. However, kindly avoid creating, sharing or resharing unofficial posters which alter the movie’s intended tone. All official artwork and updates are available on @allnightshifts across all social platforms. Thank you! – Team Diés Iraé.”
The statement comes as anticipation builds for the film’s Halloween release. The makers recently confirmed that Dies Irae has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an ‘A’ certificate.
Film Certification and Release Details
All Night Shifts had earlier shared an update confirming the certification, stating, “#DIESIRAE Certified ‘A’! In Cinemas Worldwide from 31st October. #DIESIRAE Starring @pranavmohanlal Written & Directed by @rahul_madking. Produced By @chakdyn @sash041075. Banner @allnightshifts @studiosynot.”
Initially referred to by the working title #NSS2, the film’s official title, Dies Irae, was revealed earlier this year.
Glimpse Into the Story
The film’s trailer, which recently dropped online, has heightened curiosity among audiences. It opens with an elderly woman confronting a man over his silence about a child’s troubling behavior. “What will people think?” he responds, to which she retorts, “And now, didn’t that feeling turn out to be true?”
The sequence hints at a haunting tale centered on a boy, played by Pranav Mohanlal, who is believed by his neighbors to be cursed. The character experiences eerie occurrences but remains unable to speak about them, fearing disbelief.
Based on true incidents, Dies Irae is slated for a global theatrical release on October 31, aligning with Halloween.
From the Makers of Brammayugam
Interest in Dies Irae has soared largely due to its creative team, which includes several technicians from Rahul Sadasivan’s acclaimed Malayalam horror film Brammayugam, starring Mammootty.
Cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, art director Jothish Shankar, and editor Shafique Mohammed Ali, who all contributed to Brammayugam, have returned for this project.
Filming and Completion
Production for Dies Irae began in the last week of March this year in Vadakara, Calicut. Although the team initially aimed to wrap up filming within 40 days, the shoot was completed even earlier, by April.
Rahul Sadasivan’s previous film, Brammayugam, was a black-and-white period horror drama set in Kerala’s dark ages, featuring Mammootty, Sidharth Bharathan, Arjun Ashokan, and Amalda Liz. The film, known for its atmospheric storytelling and dialogues penned by novelist T.D. Ramakrishnan, received critical acclaim and box-office success.
