Lakshya Recalls His Roadies Audition, Reveals Family Was ‘Overjoyed’ When He Got Selected
Lakshya, who shot to fame with his recent appearance in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut series ‘The Ba***ds Of Bollywood’, has had an interesting journey from television shows to films. Did you know it all began when he auditioned for MTV’s popular reality show ‘Roadies’? Yes, you read that right! The actor recently opened up about auditioning for Roadies back in 2014 after finishing 12th grade, and how it eventually led to the start of his acting career!
Lakshya On His Roadies Audition
In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, ‘Kill’ actor Lakshya revealed that his journey to acting began quite unexpectedly. Having finished 12th grade in 2014 with low marks and no college admission, he was working as a gym trainer earning Rs 3,000 to 4,000 per month. “Back in 2014, right after my 12th standard, I wasn’t getting admission into any college—because my grades were low. My marks just weren’t good. At that time, a senior from school, Tarun, who used to work at MTV, told me there’s a show going on, ‘Roadies’. And auditions are happening. He said, ‘Go check it out,’” recalled Lakshya.
He said that back in 2014, Roadies was considered ‘pretty cool’, so he agreed to go for the auditions. While he was initially reluctant at first due to the long audition process, his mother pushed him to go for it. “That time I was working as a gym trainer. I used to make some 3-4k Rs a month. And I was very happy at the age of 17, that at least I was taking care of my own expenses,” he said.
Lakshya added that he ended up going for the audition, and things just happened for him one after the other. “Things were just happening for me. When I entered, the gate was about to shut. Aakhri ke 10 minutes bache. After I get in, one of the officials saw me and said come forward. I wondered 150-200 people are standing behind me, why did you call me forward? I don’t know why he called me first and I was made to stand in the very first row. I was among the top 10 guys to enter the group discussion,” recalled Lakshya.
Lakshya Recalls His Family’s Reaction
He cleared the group discussion round, and was called for the personal interview. Recalling his family’s reaction, Lakshya said, “I told the entire family ki ho gaya hai and I have been called for the main interview. My family was so happy. They probably weren’t even this happy when I was born. My father made mutton for me. My sister was messaging her friend saying, ‘My brother got into Roadies!’”
He then said that after the final selection round, Lakshya also got an offer for a fictional TV show. “My father said he will come to drop me. We went the next morning, and waha pe selection ho gaya mera. The next morning, they called me and said in spite of doing Roadies, would you be open to doing a fictional show? I asked what will I get? I was told Mumbai aana padega and paisa milega.” Lakshya revealed he was offered Rs 55,000 per month, and he eagerly accepted since the opportunity gave him both financial independence and the freedom to leave Delhi.
Lakshya’s Television Career
Before making his feature film debut in the 2023 film ‘Kill’, Lakshya starred in several television shows including ‘Warrior High’, ‘Adhuri Kahaani Humari’, ‘Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil’, ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya’ and ‘Porus’.
