Former Dangal actress Zaira Wasim, who quit Bollywood in 2019 citing religious reasons, has tied the knot. The actress surprised her fans on Friday evening by sharing pictures from her intimate nikaah ceremony on Instagram.
Zaira shared two photographs from the ceremony that beautifully captured the solemn yet serene moment. In the first image, she is seen signing her nikaah nama, the marriage contract, her hand decorated with intricate mehendi designs and adorned with a statement emerald ring. The picture focuses on her graceful gesture as she pens her signature on the document, marking the official beginning of a new chapter in her life.
In the second image, Zaira and her husband are seen from behind, standing under the night sky as they look up at the moon. She is draped in a deep red dupatta intricately embroidered with golden threadwork, while her groom wears a cream-colored sherwani with a matching stole. The moonlit frame exudes quiet intimacy and spiritual calm. Zaira kept her caption simple yet meaningful, writing only, “Qubool hai x3.”
The Actress Who Walked Away From Fame
Zaira Wasim shot to fame at the age of 16 with Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016), where she played the younger version of wrestler Geeta Phogat. Her powerful performance earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. She followed it up with another acclaimed role in Secret Superstar (2017), cementing her position as one of Bollywood’s brightest young talents.
However, in 2019, Zaira announced that she was quitting the film industry, explaining that acting conflicted with her faith. In a heartfelt note, she said, “This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan.”
She further stated that the entertainment industry “interfered with her relationship with religion,” leading her to make the difficult decision to step away.
