Arjun Kapoor’s sister, Anshula Kapoor’s engagement to movie writer, Rohan Thakkar, brought a celebratory time for the family. Although the ceremony was intimate, pictures from the event were purely emotional. But the one person Arjun and Anshula missed the most during her special day was their late mother and Boney Kapoor’s first wife, Mona Shourie.
Producer Boney Kapoor’s marriage to legendary actress Sridevi has always been controversial. The duo began dating and living together even when he was married to his first wife, Mona Shourie. Just after Boney’s separation from Mona, he tied the knot with Sridevi in 1996 and was blessed with two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor (born in 1997) and Khushi Kapoor (born in 2000).
Who Was Mona Shourie?
Born and brought up in New Delhi, Mona was the daughter of Sattee Shourie and a prominent businesswoman. She was the CEO of Future Studios, the largest ready-to-shoot, fully furnished, indoor shooting studio in Mumbai.
Additionally, she had a multifaceted career. She was an Indian television producer, film producer and entrepreneur. According to Orissa Post, she managed the manpower for ‘Business Aids’ & ‘Machine Exports’, in which she was a partner. As the director of FCL, she served as the production coordinator for films such as Sheesha, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Munmun Sen and Mallika Sarabhai, and Farishtey, which featured Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Sridevi and Rajnikanth.
Mona had also served as a Jury Member of the Indian Telly Awards in 2005, and has always been the biggest source of inspiration for her kids.
Mona Shourie’s Personal Life
She was married to Boney Kapoor from 1983 to 1996. They welcomed two children, son Arjun Kapoor (born in 1985) and daughter Anshula Kapoor (born in 1990). But she was much more than just a doting mother and a wife.
Despite being married to her, Boney fell in love with Sridevi, leading to their separation. Once, in an interview, Mona revealed how she was devastated after learning about it. “I was married to Boney, who was 10 years elder to me. I was 19 when I married him. It was an arranged marriage, and 13 years old. This is the reason why I was shocked when I came to know that my husband loves someone else,” she told DNA.
“There was nothing left in the relationship to give another chance, as Sridevi was pregnant by that time. It was better to move on. My son, Arjun, and daughter, Anshula, were in school at the time. They had to face taunts, but they became strong and understood the whole condition,” she added.
Mona Shourie Passed Away In 2012
The businesswoman went to her heavenly abode at the mere age of 48 on March 25, 2012, in the presence of her children. She passed away due to multiple organ failure after battling with cancer and hypertension, leaving a huge void in the lives of her kids, Arjun and Anshula.
