Interestingly, Karan Johar’s words come at a time when Deepika Padukone has grabbed everyone’s attention for her alleged short work hour and high entourage demands.

Karan argued that as an actor, it is one's job to look good and therefore, he does not understand when people expect producers to pay for their trainer or healthy food.

Karan Johar has expressed concerns regarding actors’ high entourage. In a recent interview, the filmmaker explained that it is not a financial issue but an “ethical” one. He expressed that the issue needs attention because actors also need to show some grace now.

“I have an ethical problem with entourages, not a financial one. We set a fixed budget for such needs. But if an actor wants anything beyond that, be it a personal trainer or specific dietary requirements, they should cover the cost themselves. I will pay for it only when it’s essential for the film, like in a sports drama requiring a certain physique,” KJo told Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel Game Changer.

Karan argued that as an actor, it is one’s job to look good and therefore, he does not understand when people expect producers to pay for their trainer or healthy food. He also explained that there is a need for producers to unite and take a firm decision regarding the high entourage issue.

“The producers are not united. We often discuss these matters, but no one follows through. However, we are now trying to bring change by capping the budget for hair and makeup. We tell them upfront this is all we can offer. If you want anything extra, please handle it yourself. And now, many actors are doing just that, which I respect,” he said.

Karan also urged actors to show some grace and concluded by saying, “My problem is with actors who are getting mammoth payments and still expect the producers to pay for their basic needs. Show some grace. It’s strange to me when these small issues become points of contention. I don’t understand why some actors travel with eight people in their entourage.”

Interestingly, Karan Johar’s words come at a time when Deepika Padukone has grabbed everyone’s attention for her alleged short work hours and high entourage demands. After she was ousted from Kalki 2 last month, a report by Bollywood Hungama claimed that the makers decided to drop the actress because she was demanding a 25 per cent hike in her fees, along with a 7-hour work shift. Reportedly, the makers attempted to negotiate these two demands with the actress, but she remained inflexible.

The same report also claimed that Deepika travels with an entourage of 25 people. Reportedly, the actress was also demanding five-star accommodation and reimbursement for food throughout the shoot for her team. While the producers tried to negotiate with her and requested her to reduce the team strength, Deepika was firm with her demands.
