The much-anticipated film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, finally hit theatres this Dussehra. The film had a respectable opening but is facing tough competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1. While the opening day collections of the two films differed significantly, their box office trajectories in the coming weeks remain uncertain.
According to Sacnilk, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari earned approximately Rs 9.25 crore net on its opening day in India. In comparison, Kantara: Chapter 1 had a massive opening, raking in over Rs 60 crore nationwide.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari registered an overall occupancy of 32.45% on its opening day, with evening shows driving most of the footfall. Among cities, Chennai led with 61% occupancy, followed by Bengaluru at 55.25% and Kolkata at 48%. Mumbai, NCR, and Hyderabad performed reasonably well, while Surat, Bhopal, and Ahmedabad saw minimal audience turnout.
In comparison, Kantara: Chapter 1 dominated across languages, with an 88.13% occupancy for Kannada, 75.34% for Telugu, and 29.84% for Hindi screenings.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan, follows the story of Sunny (Varun Dhawan) and Tulsi (Janhvi Kapoor). The film’s plot centres on the two protagonists attempting to win back their former partners, Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) and Vikram (Rohit Saraf), while their families push for new arranged marriages. Promising a fun-filled and quirky take on the rom-com genre, the movie also features Maniesh Paul, Akshay Oberoi, Abhinav Sharma, and other supporting actors.
Kantara: Chapter 1: Plot And Cast
Kantara: Chapter 1 is set during the Kadamba period in Karnataka, when the Kadambas were influential rulers who shaped the region’s architecture and culture, a period often regarded as a Golden Era in Indian history. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah. Critics and audiences alike have lauded the movie for its gripping story, powerful performances, and rich cultural backdrop.
