Late actor Rishi Kapoor may no longer be present in the film industry, but his sharp humour, unpredictable temper, and memorable anecdotes continue to echo through Bollywood. His name resurfaced recently on Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s talk show, “Too Much with Kajol and Twinkle”, where Twinkle Khanna, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt recalled humourous and heartfelt moments with the veteran star.

On the show, Varun Dhawan narrated a lighthearted episode from the sets of his debut film Student of the Year. Recalling Kapoor’s characteristic bluntness, Varun said, “Rishi ji said, ‘What is this? Your hair doesn’t move at all. Whether it’s a storm or a hurricane, your hair doesn’t budge. You’re playing football, your hair should move. Remove this gel, I won’t give the shot.'”

The actor revealed that Kapoor even walked up to him, inspected his hair, and then summoned director Karan Johar to complain. Karan instructed Varun to “move his hair”, only for Varun to respond that the gel made it impossible. Rishi Kapoor, unimpressed, insisted once again that the gel be removed. “The next shot wasn’t taken until the gel was completely gone,” Varun added, sending the studio audience into laughter.

Alia Bhatt, who later worked with Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor & Sons (2016), shared more emotional memories. Speaking of their evenings together on set, she said, “Rishi ji had so many wonderful stories to tell. After shooting, he would invite everyone together for dinner. That atmosphere was very special. I miss him a lot.”

Alia also reflected on how her daughter Raha, with actor Ranbir Kapoor, reminds people of the late star. “When people see Raha, they say she is a mini Rishi Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. There is a little bit of Rishi ji’s energy in her, which is visible from time to time.”

Twinkle Khanna, too, recalled a witty incident that once caused a storm on social media. She recounted how Rishi Kapoor had wished her on her birthday by tweeting that she was in her mom’s tummy when he was serenading her mother, Dimple Kapadia. The remark triggered speculation, with many jokingly branding her as Rishi Kapoor’s “illegitimate daughter”.

“I almost became a Kapoor because of Alia’s father-in-law. On my birthday, he tweeted very generously, ‘Oh you know… when you were in your mother’s stomach, I serenaded her’. So everybody thought that I was his illegitimate daughter. Then he got trolled and had to clarify, saying, ‘No, I am so sorry’,” Twinkle said, laughing about the incident.

Few years ago, Rishi Kapoor had sent Twinkle a quirky birthday wish referencing the iconic song “Aksar koi ladka”, saying, “Happy Happy Birthday dear one! You were in your mum’s tummy when I was serenading her in Bobby in 1973 lol.”

However, after much trolling, Rishi Kapoor quickly set the record straight, tweeting, “Kuch logon ko problem kya hai? Kakaji and Dimple were married, Bobby was still incomplete, we shot that song when Dimple was 3 months pregnant. Kakaji-Dimple married in March, 1973. Bobby released September 28, 1973. Twinkle born December 29, 1973.”
