Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana is one of the most talked-about projects with a stellar cast headlining it. Audience excitement has grown with each update coming in. Now, as the movie eyes a Diwali 2026 release, a report has it that the shoot of the film has already been wrapped, and on top of that, the first round of VFX has also been completed.

As per Pinkvilla, a source has revealed, “While the shooting for Ramayana: Part One was wrapped up way back in June 2025, director Nitesh Tiwari has locked the edit for the first instalment. They have frozen the runtime and locked the line-up for the saga. The first round of VFX is also done, and the team has now taken the final edit for a prolonged round of post-production.”

“The intent is to lock the final cut of Ramayana: Part One by Summer 2026, for a Diwali release. The makers will have a prolonged marketing planned, with assets at regular intervals all through next year, as Ramayana is undoubtedly the biggest Indian film of the year. While the first part will be locked completely by Summer 2026, the shooting for the second installment is also expected to conclude by mid-next year and then get into the post-production stage,” the source further revealed.

To our surprise, the makers are also planning to finish 75% of the post-production work before the release of Ramayana: Part One. The source concluded, “It’s a sign of confidence from Namit Malhotra in the world of Ramayana. He is leaving no stone unturned to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience.”

On July 3, 2025, the makers unveiled the epic universe with a global launch of Ramayana: The Introduction, setting the stage for the timeless battle between two of mythology’s most iconic forces: Rama vs Ravana. The launch was global, featuring fan screenings across nine Indian cities and a spectacular billboard takeover at Times Square, New York.

What is the story of Ramayana?

Set in a timeless age, the universe is maintained by the cosmic trinity — Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Protector, and Shiva the Destroyer — who ensure harmony among gods, sages, humans, and demons. However, from the ruins of this balance emerges a force unlike any other.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios along with the 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX and will be released worldwide: Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.

With a massive all-star lineup featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Amitabh Bachchan, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and more, this two-part epic has officially claimed the title of the most expensive Indian film ever, with a combined budget of around Rs 4,000 crore.
