It has been a few years since Lorde last commanded a massive arena. Her Melodrama World Tour in 2018 saw her performing to packed stadiums, but when she returned in 2021 for the Solar Power era, she opted for smaller, more intimate venues, playing exclusively in theatre-sized spaces. However, with 2025’s Virgin, it was clear that her music demanded nothing less than a return to arenas.
Back in May, Lorde admitted she was “in legitimate shock” over the overwhelming excitement for her newly announced Ultrasound Tour 2025. In a newsletter to fans, she explained the decision to book bigger venues wasn’t easy:
“Deciding to book a bigger tour was something I agonised over (Melo arena tour…if you know……) but in the spirit of having the GD Stones I decided that this music wants to be played in big rooms and that a lot of us should be there. To have that met with this is so beautiful. Thank you for your faith in me.”
Lorde Launches the Ultrasound World Tour
Four months later, on September 17, the Royals singer officially launched the Ultrasound World Tour at the Moody Center in Austin. Supporting her critically acclaimed new album Virgin, Lorde treated fans to a career-spanning setlist. From her debut, Pure Heroine hits like Royals, Team and Ribs to new Virgin standouts such as Shapeshifter and David, the show blended nostalgia with fresh energy.
AV Club Reacts To Virgin
Reflecting on Lorde’s latest album, AV Club wrote, “Virgin is an album so earnestly, painfully vulnerable you can almost see straight through to the blood and guts. It’s not always polished or pretty, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s alive,” according to a report by USA Today.
Lorde’s Message to Fans
In a fan newsletter, Lorde shared her vision for the tour. She said, “Since last time I’ve been stripping away unnecessary layers, finding us more room to move. I think that Ultrasound could be our masterpiece. Very proud and excited. … Come see what’s under the skin.”
After the opening night, she also posted glimpses from the show on Instagram.
The side note read, “Ultrasound 1 in Austin. Raw, alive , intimate and massive. You sounded soo good performing the songbook. I kept getting the shivers onstage. What we have is rare, pure and totally ours and what happens in these rooms the next couple months is just for us. I’m Sooooo blissed 2 be back. Also my period came which means I’m synced up with my own tour……..it’s lit.”
