Jenny Han admits Jeremiah’s Paris moments with Belly were filmed only to mislead fans about The Summer I Turned Pretty’s emotional season 3 ending.

The season 3 finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty delivered the long-awaited resolution to Belly Conklin’s love triangle with the Fisher brothers, but not without a few clever tricks behind the scenes. Jenny Han, the author of the original books and showrunner of the Prime Video adaptation, has now revealed that Jeremiah’s Paris scenes were staged purely to confuse fans and keep the ending under wraps.
Jenny Han Explains The Paris ‘Decoy’ Scenes
After the finale aired on September 17, Han shared with PEOPLE that Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, filmed scenes in Paris with Lola Tung (Belly) last fall, even though they never made it into the final cut. “Because I felt that, if Gavin never showed up in Paris, then it would be really obvious what the ending was,” Han explained.
Fans who spotted the cast filming in the French capital were convinced Jeremiah had a role in Belly’s Paris storyline, with leaked footage fueling countless theories. But it was Conrad (Christopher Briney) who ultimately arrived at Belly’s doorstep in Paris, reuniting with her after she called off her wedding to Jeremiah.
The Paris Ending Fans Didn’t See Coming
The finale showed Conrad meeting Belly’s Parisian friends, seeing the city through her eyes, and spending her birthday eve together. It was a heartfelt reunion that finally brought closure to their complicated romance. Belly chose Conrad, and the Paris episodes highlighted not just romance but her personal growth.
“I think the Paris episodes are so necessary to her growth and to her own well-being,” Tung said. She added that Belly had created “a really beautiful little life” for herself in Paris before letting Conrad step into it. “It’s fun for Conrad to also see Belly in that new way.”
A Movie To Conclude Belly’s Story
While season 3 wrapped up the series’ love triangle, the story isn’t over yet. Prime Video has already confirmed a movie that will serve as the final chapter of Belly and Conrad’s journey. With Jenny Han’s knack for surprising fans, viewers can expect more emotional twists — and perhaps a few more tricks — before the saga officially concludes.
