Fans are wondering if The Summer I Turned Pretty will return for season 4. Jenny Han explains why Belly and Conrad’s love story has reached its end.

Belly and Conrad’s love story closes with The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 finale.
The season 3 finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiered on September 17 on Prime Video, leaving fans both delighted and bittersweet. The story concluded with Belly and Conrad finally finding their way back to each other at the iconic Cousins Beach house. Creator Jenny Han also took a moment to thank her loyal fans through a heartfelt note, sparking questions about whether a fourth season could be on the horizon.
Why There Won’t Be Season 4
According to Entertainment Weekly, The Summer I Turned Pretty will not continue beyond season 3. The reason is simple: the show has run out of source material. Jenny Han’s beloved coming-of-age romantic trilogy consists of three books—The Summer I Turned Pretty (2009), It’s Not Summer Without You (2010), and We’ll Always Have Summer (2011).
Each season of the Prime Video adaptation has aligned with one of these novels. Season 1 covered the first book, season 2 followed the second, and the just-concluded third season brought the story full circle with the final novel. Since Han never wrote a fourth installment, she believes the trilogy should end as it was intended.
“Three books, three seasons. It feels right to me,” Jenny Han told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, putting to rest hopes for another continuation.
Jenny Han’s Emotional Goodbye
At the close of the finale, Jenny Han addressed her fans in a touching letter shared by TV Insider.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years. Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show, I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers,” she wrote.
Han ended her note with a glimmer of hope for the future: “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then—All of my love always, Jenny.”
The message quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), with many fans speculating that instead of a fourth season, a spin-off or even a movie adaptation could bring Belly and Conrad back on screen.
While season 3 may have closed the official chapter, the possibility of revisiting Cousins Beach in a new format still excites the fandom.
