Priya Sachdev Kapur, entrepreneur, former model and wife of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, is at the heart of a fierce corporate succession conflict. The rift began after Sunjay Kapur, chairman of the Rs 30,000 crore Sona Group, died of a heart attack on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in England. His sudden passing left a vacuum in the group’s leadership and sparked an intense family battle.
In a letter to the Sona Comstar board, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur alleged she was coerced into signing critical documents “behind locked doors” and denied access to her accounts. She also claimed “gross illegalities” had taken place within the group’s management. While she did not directly name Priya, her accusations have cast a shadow over Priya’s role, suggesting a prolonged legal and corporate showdown could follow.
Entrepreneurial Journey and Rise in Business
Priya Sachdev Kapur, born into a family with automobile industry ties, carved her own career before marrying Sunjay. After earning a mathematics and business management degree from University College London, she began her professional journey with Credit Suisse First Boston in London, specializing in mergers and acquisitions.
On her return to India, she co-founded Rock N Shop, one of the first luxury e-commerce ventures in the country, establishing herself as a savvy entrepreneur. She also serves as director at Aureus Investment and holds a non-executive directorship at Sona Comstar, a role now more significant amid the unfolding dispute.
Bollywood Aspirations and Personal Life
Before her entrepreneurial pursuits, Priya briefly ventured into modeling and acting. She appeared in several commercials, including one with Kareena Kapoor, and featured in a supporting role in the 2005 Yash Raj film Neal ’n’ Nikki.
Her personal life has often been in the spotlight. Her first marriage to hotelier Vikram Chatwal ended in divorce after a custody battle. In 2017, she tied the knot with Sunjay Kapur, who was earlier married to actress Karisma Kapoor. Today, Priya’s life is again under scrutiny, not for her Bollywood ambitions but for her role in one of India’s most high-profile inheritance disputes.
