Karisma Kapoor’s children claim stepmother Priya Sachdev forged Sunjay Kapur’s will.
The legal battle over the massive estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, has entered a pivotal phase. Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, recently filed a civil suit in the Delhi High Court, alleging that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, attempted to manipulate their father’s will. The dispute centers on an estate valued at an estimated Rs 30,000 crore.
Sunjay Kapur’s sister voices support
In a notable development, Mandhira Kapur Smith, Sunjay Kapur’s sister, publicly expressed her support for Karisma Kapoor’s children. Speaking to ANI, she said, “I’m very happy about it because finally the family will know something and have some knowledge about anything really. I believe in the justice system in India, so I’m hoping it will bring more clarity, more visibility and transparency to everything.” Her comments underline the high stakes involved in this estate dispute and bring additional attention to the legal proceedings.
Backing the children’s claim
Mandhira went further, affirming her trust in Samaira and Kiaan’s actions, stating, “I stand by them because I do not think that if anyone knows the relationship they have had with their father and for their father not to have them a part of the will, it just doesn’t add up. Doesn’t make sense. So I stand by them.” Her remarks could influence public perception as the case progresses, highlighting the children’s legal and moral claim to the estate.
Meanwhile, the court has directed Priya Kapur to disclose all movable and immovable assets of Sunjay Kapur as of June 12, 2025. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya, has countered the lawsuit, arguing it is not maintainable. The legal battle is expected to continue for months, drawing attention from both the media and the public.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married in a high-profile wedding in Mumbai in 2003 and had two children together. They divorced by mutual consent in 2016, and Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev in 2017. Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, reportedly due to a heart attack during a polo match in England, though reports of a bee incident at the scene remain unverified.
