Director James Gunn has officially revealed the title of his upcoming Superman film, dropping its earlier title, Superman: Legacy. He has revealed the official title of his next Superman movie, “Superman: Man of Tomorrow”, which is set to release in 2027.
Gunn shared the news on his Instagram account, with the caption, “Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027.” The post showed an illustration by renowned DC Comics artist Jim Lee. The original Superman film, starring David Corenswet as the titular hero, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
What Next After Superman’s Success?
The announcement follows the studio’s earlier reveal of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, due out in 2026. Originally, the Supergirl movie was going to be called Woman of Tomorrow, but that title was dropped.
What Does Man Of Tomorrow Mean?
The phrase ‘Man of Tomorrow’ has been around in Superman’s mythology for almost a century. It has appeared in old Superman radio shows, comic storylines, like Alan Moore’s Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? and even in a 2020 animated movie.
The title carries deep roots in Superman’s mythology. For decades, it has been used as one of his nicknames.
DCU’s Upcoming Lineup
With two upcoming Kryptonian-led movies, DC seems to be setting the stage for a franchise that presents its legendary heroes as both future emblems and defenders of the present.
Earlier, Mr Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter that he has already completed the treatment for the new Superman movie. He called it “the next story in the ‘Superman Saga.'”
The new DCU Superman sequel will come out two years after the first Superman movie and one year after the Supergirl movie in 2026.
