Television actor Ashish Kapoor was arrested in Pune on Wednesday. He has been accused of raping a woman, who claimed that the actor assaulted her sexually during a house party in Delhi earlier in August. Kapoor’s arrest has left fans shocked. Who Is Ashish Kapoor?
Ashish Kapoor is an Indian television actor, known for his performances in several shows. Born on October 17, 1984, in New Delhi, Kapoor initially pursued a career in interior design before transitioning to acting.
He made his television debut with ‘Shhh… Koi Hai’ in 2010 and later also featured in shows like ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’, ‘Saraswatichandra’, and ‘Molkki – Rishto Ki Angnipariksha’. Kapoor’s portrayal of Yuvraj Udayveer Singh in ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’ earned him significant recognition.
Ashish Kapoor also featured in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, when Hina Khan and Karan Mehra were still a part of the show. Kapoor used to play the role of Naitik’s sister, Rashami’s husband in the show.
What Are The Allegations Against Ashish Kapoor?
Police reported that the complainant initially claimed that Kapoor, his friend who hosted the party, and two unidentified men sexually assaulted her, while a woman physically attacked her. Later, she stated that Kapoor alone raped her. Officers mentioned the case, initially registered as gangrape, will soon be reclassified as rape.
The woman also alleged that the incident was recorded, but investigators have not recovered any such footage. Police explained that Kapoor first connected with the complainant on Instagram before inviting her to the house party where the alleged assault occurred.
On August 11, an FIR was filed against Kapoor, his friend, his friend’s wife, and two unknown men. On August 18, the complainant revised her statement, alleging that Kapoor and his friend raped her, while the woman assaulted her.
However, days after, i.e. on August 21, Kapoor’s friend and his wife applied for anticipatory bail, which was granted.
Investigating officers noted that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts confirmed that Kapoor and the woman entered the washroom together during the party and did not emerge for some time. Concerned, other guests and the host began knocking on the door.
A heated argument later broke out between the parties, which continued till the gate of the society. Police added that it was the wife who eventually made the PCR call reporting the matter.
Officials said legal procedures are being followed, and Kapoor will face charges under rape provisions. The investigation remains ongoing.
