Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s much-anticipated film, The Bengal Files, will not hit screens in several key international territories on its originally scheduled release date of September 5, due to delays in the local censorship approval processes. The production team has officially confirmed that the film has not yet received clearance in Mauritius, with the censor board’s decision still pending. As a result, the film will not be released in the country until further notice.

Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, the film is currently undergoing review by local censorship authorities. These regions have strict regulatory procedures for content approval, especially for films dealing with politically or socially sensitive themes. While there is no formal objection raised so far, the delay in receiving certification has led the producers to push back the release date in these regions.

Bengal Files Trailer

Set against the turbulent backdrop of West Bengal’s violent political history, The Bengal Files confronts uncomfortable truths. Based on real testimonies and historical events, the film throws light on the long-ignored Hindu genocide. The trailer brims with unsettling moments. In one scene, a voice declares, “Yeh Paschim Bangal hai, yaha do constitution chalta hai, ek Hinduao ka, ek Musalmanon ka.” Another character asserts with conviction, “Sirf Zameen ka tukda nahi, Bharat ka lighthouse hai Bangal.”

The trailer closes with a chilling question that attempts to echo into the conscience of the audience: “Kyu Azaadi ke 80 saal baad bhi hum ussi communal politics se ladh rahe hai? Kya hum aazad hai?”

Speaking at the trailer launch in Kolkata, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri said, “The Bengal Files is a wake-up call… a roar that we will not let Bengal become another Kashmir. We decided to launch the trailer in Kolkata to bring authenticity to the portrayal of untold story of Hindu Genocide and you will witness a glimpse of it in the trailer. The nation should prepare… because if Kashmir hurt you, Bengal will haunt you.”
