The founder and CEO of Bastian Hospitality announced on Instagram that the brand is launching a new South Indian restaurant, Ammakai, at the former location of Bastian Bandra.

The new South Indian restaurant Ammakai will open in mid-October.
Actor Shilpa Shetty recently took to her Instagram to announce that her restaurant, Bastian Bandra, is all set to shut down. While the announcement did not mention why the iconic and Mumbai’s most loved restaurant was closing its doors, the news came after the actor and her husband, Raj Kundra, were reportedly accused of cheating a Mumbai-based businessman of over Rs 60 crore.
Putting an end to all speculation, Bastian shared an Instagram post. Ranjit Bindra, Founder and CEO of Bastian Hospitality, mentioned that the brand is all set to welcome a South Indian restaurant and a beach club.
Take a look at the post here.
“Bandra was our beginning, and while that chapter closes, two new stories are waiting to be written,” said Ranjit in the post. As Bastian Bandra, the flagship that made the brand a household name among Mumbai’s food lovers, prepares to close its doors, the group is already setting the table for its next era.
Ammakai: South Indian Flavours with Heart
Come mid-October, the iconic Bandra space will be reborn as Ammakai, a speciality South Indian restaurant. Translating to ‘the mother’s hand’, Ammakai promises comfort, warmth, and authenticity. The menu will pay homage to the depth of South Indian culinary traditions: recipes rooted in heritage, layered with regional flavours, and elevated with Bastian’s hallmark attention to detail and service.
Bastian Beach Club: The Juhu Escape
Simultaneously, the Bastian spirit of indulgence and celebration will make its way to Mumbai’s coastline with the launch of Bastian Beach Club in Juhu. Conceptualised as a vibrant coastal destination, it will bring together the brand’s signature flair for food, music, and atmosphere: this time with a beachside twist.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
“Bandra was where Bastian’s journey began, and it will always remain close to us. As we evolve, it feels right to honour the depth of South Indian cuisine through Ammakai, while also bringing the energy and indulgence of Bastian to Juhu in a fresh new way,” says Ranjit.
For Ranjit and his team, these shifts are about more than expansion; they’re about evolution.
