The food and nightlife scene in Mumbai is in for a big shake-up. Shilpa Shetty has announced that her popular Bandra restaurant, Bastian, will close its doors permanently on Thursday (September 4). The announcement has left fans nostalgic, given the venue’s reputation as one of the city’s most glamorous celebrity hotspots.
The closure also comes in the backdrop of allegations of financial irregularities worth Rs 60 crore involving Shilpa and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra. Amid the chatter, Raj posted a cryptic message on Instagram that read: “Fikar Naa Kar, Waheguru Ji Ang Sang Hai.” In another post, he shared: “Don’t treat people as bad as they are, treat them as good as you are.” Both notes were quickly linked by fans to the developments around Bastian.
Shilpa Confirms Bastian’s Closure, Announces Farewell Night
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Shilpa Shetty wrote: “This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai’s most iconic destinations – Bastian Bandra. A venue that gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city’s nightlife now takes its final bow.”
She added that the restaurant would host a special farewell evening for loyal patrons, marking its last night with nostalgia, music, and memories. The announcement immediately set social media buzzing, with fans lamenting the end of a hotspot that was often graced by celebrities.
Shilpa Clarifies: “Bastian Is Going Nowhere”
Sensing confusion, Shilpa later posted a video reassuring fans that Bastian wasn’t completely shutting shop. “No, I am not shutting down Bastian. I promise!” she said with an eye roll, admitting she had received countless frantic calls. She requested fans not to turn their love for the brand “toxic.”
She explained that while Bastian Bandra is closing, the brand is evolving. A new South Indian Mangalorean restaurant named AMMAKAI will soon open, while Bastian Beach Club is set to launch in Juhu. “Bandra Bastian was the root to our tree called Bastian Hospitality… Your favourite Bastian is staying, going nowhere!” she clarified.
