After causing devastation in Jammu and Uttarakhand, the relentless monsoon rainfall has now left Punjab battling one of its worst flood crises in recent years. Large parts of the state have been submerged, displacing thousands of families, damaging homes and leaving farmland underwater. The crisis has created widespread concern, with prayers and support pouring in from across the country.

Joining the chorus of support, Bollywood celebrities have also stepped forward to express their heartfelt concern and extend prayers for those affected. Karan Johar, Sidharth Malhotra, Rajkummar Rao, Ananya Panay and many other celebrities expressed their deepest concern over this adversity.

Karan Johar Expresses Concern

Karan Johar took to Instagram and wrote, “It’s been a tough time for our friends & family in Punjab with the brutality of the floods. Sending my prayers and strength to overcome this adversity. Please do your part in any way possible and share only verified information.”

He also added a list of helpline numbers to his story to ensure those affected have access to immediate resources.

Sidharth Malhotra Prays For Punjab

Taking to X, Sidharth Malhotra wrote, “Heart goes out to everyone affected by the floods in Punjab. Praying for strength, safety and relief for all.”

Rajkummar Rao Extends Support

Rajkummar Rao also took to Instagram and wrote, “My heart goes out to everyone who is affected by these floods. We are all praying for you. Doing my bit and requesting everyone, please do whatever we can to help all the families who are affected.”

Ananaya Panday Shares Helpline Numbers

Ananya Panday joined in by resharing a post by Local Samosa that carried a detailed list of helpline numbers for those in flood-hit regions. The post highlighted, “Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Jammu Kashmir face severe floods due to heavy monsoon rains. Swipe for the key Helpline Numbers.” Like Karan Johar, Ananya amplified this information to help spread awareness among her followers.

Bollywood celebrities support flood victims

On September 1, several Punjabi and Bollywood celebrities came forward with both emotional and practical support. Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood announced a dedicated helpline (+91 7888675107) under his Sood Charity Foundation to assist affected families. Popular Punjabi stars, including Diljit Dosanjh and Gippy Grewal, also expressed their concern and promised aid.

The Situation In Punjab

Punjab continues to reel under the impact of flooding caused by the overflowing Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers after heavy rainfall in their upper catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. According to reports, over 1,000 villages have been affected and more than 61,000 hectares of farmland have been submerged. Among the worst-hit districts are Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar. With rescue operations underway, officials have also temporarily suspended the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage until September 5 as a precautionary measure.
