Netflix has unveiled the official release date for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the highly anticipated third film in Rian Johnson’s hit whodunnit series.

The mystery will debut in select cinemas on November 26, 2025, for a limited two-week run before premiering globally on Netflix on December 12, 2025. The announcement was made via Netflix’s official Instagram with the teaser caption, “Wake up dead man, this time every clue cuts deeper.”

Rian Johnson Pushes for Wider Theatrical Release

Following the path of Glass Onion in 2022, Wake Up Dead Man will once again have a brief theatrical window. However, Johnson has been vocal about wanting more viewers to experience the mystery on the big screen. “We’re going to push for everything we can get in terms of theatrical, because I want as many people as possible to see it in that form,” Johnson told Business Insider.

This view contrasts with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos’s stance that traditional theatrical releases are “outdated.” While Netflix has not revealed which theaters will show the film, the extended two-week run suggests an attempt at slightly expanding its cinematic footprint compared to previous installments.

Daniel Craig Returns With a Star-Studded Cast

The film marks the return of Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, this time tackling what Johnson describes as the franchise’s “darkest chapter.” The plot unfolds in a religious community shaken by a seemingly impossible murder.

The ensemble cast includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

The official synopsis teases tensions as young priest Jud Duplenticy (O’Connor) joins firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Brolin). When a shocking murder occurs, local police chief Geraldine Scott (Kunis) and Benoit Blanc join forces to crack a mystery that defies logic.

With a gripping premise, a starry lineup, and a returning fan-favorite detective, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is set to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases of the year.
