Paytm UPI payments are used by millions and Google is asking them to make some updates to the process.

Google issued the alert informing its users in India
Millions of Android users in India got a message from Google a few days back, saying, Paytm UPI payments will stop working for their accounts. Knowing how popular UPI is in the country, it did cause a lot of panic among users, especially those who rely more on their phone to pay for services and shopping, rather than carrying a wallet with hard cash these days.
The change within Paytm UPI has been lingering in the backdrop for a while and Google has now given users one last chance to make the switch before they worry about their payments not working.
UPI Payments On Paytm For Android Users: What Has Changed?
UPI payments through Paytm needed changes after regulatory orders from the payment authority handling the service. Paytm was asked to move its payment channels through banks which means the UPI handles were changed from @ paytm to handles like @ pthdfc, @ ptasbi and more.
And this is what the Google alert notifies users about the changes that come into effect from August 31, 2025. “@PayTM UPI handles will be deprecated and won’t be an accepted form of payment on Google Play. This is per instructions by the National Payment Corporations of India (NCPI),” the Google alert mentioned.
The company was forced to retract its notification after an early alert claimed that all Paytm UPI payments will not work on the Play Store that people use to make subscription payments for apps on Android. The revised alert was necessary because Google clearly misphrased the terms, which did come as a surprise to millions of users as well as the companies involved in the process.
Paytm UPI Changes: What Should You Do?
The first thing you need to do is stop using the older Paytm UPI handles. Google says before your subscription renewal date comes, change/update the UPI handle or use another payment method to pay for these services. Google has given the steps to follow which you can read over here.
The apex body taking care of UPI is ready to block one of the main pathways for these scams and these changes will come into effect from October 1 this year. Payment request on UPI was introduced with a clear thought – making payments easy.
But the receiving tool became a weapon in the hands of the scammers. Many people started getting fake payment requests which at times felt to them like someone was sending them the money.
