On his birthday, BTS’ youngest member Jungkook gave fans a gift of honesty that has since turned into a global talking point. During a Weverse live on August 29, he casually admitted to having adult ADHD after a fan urged him to stop moving around. “I can’t help it. I kind of have adult ADHD. I have it so I keep moving like this,” he admitted.

Understanding ADHD in Adults

ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is commonly associated with children, but many continue to experience its symptoms into adulthood. For adults, the condition often manifests as restlessness, constant fidgeting, impulsivity, difficulty focusing, or challenges with organization. While it can sometimes be misunderstood as inattentiveness or nervous energy, ADHD is a recognised neurodevelopmental disorder. With strategies, therapy, or lifestyle adaptations, many people manage it effectively and thrive.

Jungkook’s mention instantly reframed what many critics had previously dismissed as quirky habits. His fidgeting and leg-shaking—often a subject of teasing in livestreams—are typical ADHD behaviours. By owning his reality in front of millions, Jungkook not only normalised such actions but also gave validation to fans who share similar struggles.

Fans Defend Jungkook’s Openness

Within minutes of the live, social media was flooded with supportive messages. One fan wrote, “His casual attitude about it :’) the way both Jungkook & Yoongi talk about their ADHD is so lovely to me.” Another added, “Jungkook saying he’s neurodivergent, now everyone can stop commenting weird sht telling him to stop what he can’t control.”*

Others described how deeply his words resonated: “I’ve never felt more seen. I am constantly told not to shake my legs or move when I’m sitting, BUT I CAN’T HELP IT.” For many, Jungkook’s honesty removed the shame tied to their own experiences of being judged for restlessness or stimming.

At the same time, fans criticised the troll who triggered his revelation in the first place. Comments like, “How are people even shameless enough to demand that??” and calls to mass-report the user reflected ARMY’s protective stance toward their idol.

Despite the negativity, Jungkook’s confession turned into a moment of empowerment. By addressing ADHD openly, he broke down stigma while showing that neurodivergence doesn’t define one’s talent, success, or worth.
