Back with another laughter ride of a season, the Great Indian Kapil Show featured the cast of the film Param Sundari on its latest episode on Netflix. Lead actors Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor were joined by the support cast of Sanjay Kapoor, Manjot Singh and child actor Inayat Verma for another entertaining episode, where host Kapil Sharma playfully grilled Manjot Singh.
Turning his attention to the ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ and ‘Fukrey’ actor in one of the funniest moments of the episode, Kapil brought attention to the fact that Manjot had played former Indian cricketer and guest Navjot Singh Sidhu’s role in the Emran Hashmi-led Mohammad Azharuddin biopic, released in 2016.
Upon hearing this, Sidhu was left shocked before Kapil took a hilarious dig at Manjot, saying, “Sidhu paji bethe ho toh bhi tumse lambe hain.” The joke got Sidhu, Manjot, and everyone present in the audience bursting into laughter. Not the one to stop there, Kapil extended the joke to Sidhu and made yet another reference to one of the famous incidents from the former opener’s career when he asked Manjot if he had played a few overs or also got out on the first ball?
When asked how he prepared for the role, Manjot confirmed he watched Sidhu’s old videos and got the hang of the man’s body language and talking style. The actor revealed he wanted to meet Sidhu in person as well for his preparation, but it wasn’t possible. Manjot told Kapil he felt honoured to have enacted the legend himself on screen, calling it one of the biggest highlights of his career.
Sidhu, a regular part of the Indian cricket team in the 90s, played alongside Azharuddin in many of his Tests and One-Day International appearances for the country. Even though the film failed to kick off at the box office, Manjot made an honest attempt at portraying the former cricketer and one of the respected figures in the game.
