Smt. Allu Kanakaratnam Garu, the wife of legendary Telugu actor Padma Shri Allu Ramalingaiah and grandmother of popular actor Allu Arjun, passed away early on Saturday, August 30, at the age of 94. She died at 1:45 am due to age-related health issues, leaving her family in mourning.

Amid the grief, veteran actor Chiranjeevi took steps to honour one of her last wishes. The Megastar facilitated the donation of her eyes, an act of generosity that could help restore sight for others. According to reports by Gulte on X (formerly Twitter), Chiranjeevi said he was fulfilling his late mother-in-law’s wish through the donation.

Earlier in the day, Chiranjeevi also shared his condolences and paid tribute to Smt. Kanakaratnam Garu on social media. In a heartfelt note posted on X, he wrote, “The demise of Kanakarathnamma Garu, wife of Sri Allu Ramalingayya Garu, is extremely heartbreaking. The love, courage, and life values she showed to our families will forever be an inspiration to us. I pray to God that their sacred soul attains peace. Om Shanti.”

As reported by Glute, Allu Arjun was in Mumbai at the time of his grandmother’s death. However, upon hearing the sad news, he cancelled his commitments to rush back to Hyderabad. Ram Charan was also not in the city. He was in Mysore shooting for director Buchi Babu Sana’s next movie Peddi. He also cancelled the shooting of the film to rush back to Hyderabad to attend the last rites of Allu Kanakaratnam.

For the unversed, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun are cousins. Their fathers, Allu Arvind and Chiranjeevi, are brothers-in-law.

Allu Kanakaratnam was known for her role as a matriarch in the Allu family, supporting generations of actors and contributing to the cultural fabric of Tollywood. The Allu family, alongside friends and peers in the film fraternity, continues to mourn the loss.

May her soul rest in peace!
