Shamita Shetty, who marked her Bollywood debut with Yash Raj Films’ Mohabbatein, has opened up about the struggles she faced despite a promising start in the industry with a film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and others.

Shamita Shetty recently revealed that soon after her debut, she had shot for four films – featuring names like Sanjay Dutt, Chandrachur Singh, and R Madhavan – but none of those projects saw the light of day. The unexpected setbacks stalled her career at a critical juncture, leaving her momentum disrupted, she told Pinkvilla.

Her most recent outing, The Tenant, also met with hurdles. The film, which faced multiple delays, eventually released in only a few theatres with little to no marketing support. As a result, it went largely unnoticed, despite Shamita’s hopes that it would at least receive a fair platform and release.

The actress admitted that she continues to actively reach out to filmmakers and casting directors in search of meaningful roles. “There’s no shame or harm in letting people know you’re available and want to work,” she said, reflecting both her vulnerability and her determination to do good work.

Shamita Shetty on dealing with comparisons with sister Shilpa Shetty

When asked if being constantly compared to her elder sister frustrated her, Shamita instantly replied, “Now no!” She went on to reveal how she once struggled with her own identity while growing up under the shadow of Shilpa’s success. “Shilpa is the ‘Holy Cow,’ and I was always called the brat,” Shamita laughed, before adding, “It was very difficult just to be and discover more about myself. You constantly feel like, ‘Oh maybe that’s not good of me, or that’s not right of me.’ It creates a certain turmoil inside because then you don’t know who you should be.”

Shamita admitted that this confusion stayed with her for much of her childhood. However, over the years, she has grown into her own individuality. “Now it’s very different. I have come into my own, I am confident, and I am very clear about who I want to be. The comparisons don’t really make any difference for me now,” she explained.

She further added that she never really spoke up about how the comparisons made her feel as a child. Today, however, she feels strongly that pitting people against each other is pointless. “It’s stupid to compare two human beings. Every personality is different. It’s not just about siblings—even two people in the same household can be exact opposites. That’s exactly Shilpa and me. We have our own individual forte.”

Shamita Shetty was also a part of Bigg Boss OTT.
