Sachet, Parampara slam copyright allegations on Raanjhan.
Music duo Sachet-Parampara have strongly refuted plagiarism claims against their hit track Raanjhan. The allegations, made by international musician KMKZ, were reviewed by leading streaming platforms and ultimately rejected due to a lack of evidence.
According to the platforms, all original project files for Raanjhan had been submitted well before its official release, confirming Sachet-Parampara’s rightful ownership of the song. Following this, the duo has taken legal action and filed a defamation case against KMKZ for making what they describe as “false and damaging accusations.”
Explaining the technical side of the controversy, the musicians highlighted that the composition of Raanjhan is built on a standard F# major chord progression (F#5, F#5 major 7, B sus2, E minor, D flat, E minor) — a structure commonly used across genres and therefore not grounds for plagiarism.
Addressing the issue, Sachet-Parampara said in a joint statement, “The person alleging they composed the music for Raanjhan is making completely baseless accusations, clearly intended to stir controversy and gain visibility. In consultation with our lawyers, we have issued a defamation notice and are prepared to pursue strict legal action. We’ve already submitted the original session files and piano scores to YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming platforms, all of which confirmed our authorship and dismissed any competing claims.”
What is the Raanjhan song controversy?
When Raanjhan, from Kriti Sanon’s film Do Patti, dropped in 2024, it quickly turned into a chartbuster and dominated playlists across the country. But the song landed in controversy this week after composer duo Sachet-Parampara faced plagiarism allegations.
An international music producer accused T-Series and the duo of lifting his beats without credit, leaving fans stunned. Responding to the claims, Sachet-Parampara issued a strong denial and stood firm on the originality of their work. In a recent interview, Parampara Thakur dismissed the charges outright, calling them an attempt to gain “unnecessary popularity.”
“Whoever is claiming to have produced the music for Raanjhan is making false allegations, aimed only at gaining unnecessary popularity. We have shared the original music files and piano scores with YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming platforms, which proves that our work is original. The F sharp scale chord progression is generic and can be used in multiple major-scale songs. Chords like F sharp, E flat minor, and D flat can be put together by any composer if they’re making a song on the F sharp major scale,” she told Mid-Day and added that KMKZ’s request to strike down the song has been rejected after “major platforms reviewed our original file.”
Parampara further revealed that they are planning to file a defamation case against the music producer and added, “Our lawyers have taken this matter to court now. We will be filing a defamation case against them for hampering our long-earned goodwill in the music industry. Such misleading acts/claims by anyone will not be tolerated.”
