Former Anupamaa actor Gaurav Khanna, currently inside the Bigg Boss 19 house, has been facing trolling after refusing to cook food for fellow contestants. The backlash on social media intensified when some users questioned how the actor, who won the latest season of Celebrity MasterChef India, could shy away from kitchen duties on the reality show. After former Bigg Boss contestant Rajiv Adatia backed Gaurav on social media, the actor’s team has finally responded to the incessant trolling.
Gaurav Khanna’s team broke their silence on his ‘can’t cook Indian food’ comment, and issued a statement to clarify the difference between his MasterChef journey and his current Bigg Boss stint. Taking to X, they wrote, “Let’s be clear — MasterChef and Bigg Boss cooking aren’t the same. At MasterChef, Gaurav worked with guidance, preparing one plated dish with finesse. In Bigg Boss, it’s about cooking daily meals for people, with no supervision,” the statement read.
The team further highlighted that before participating in Celebrity MasterChef, Gaurav had never cooked at all. “The show was about learning, adapting, and performing under immense pressure. Winning that title was about determination, not prior skill,” they explained. Addressing the trolling, the note added: “Judging him today on the basis of one statement about Indian food is unfair. What was Gaurav Khanna’s viral comment on cooking?
In the latest episode of Bigg Boss 19, Gaurav Khanna was seen refusing to take up cooking duties. When house captain Kunickaa Sadanand suggested he should cook, the actor refused, explaining that he cannot cook Indian food.
Previously, Gaurav spoke about cooking duties, and added, “I have come here for a reason, to win and not to cook. Everyone here has a democracy, I also have one, and I will keep my point.”
Rajiv Adatia defends Gaurav Khanna
Rajiv Adatia shared a video in which he defended Gaurav Khanna’ choice to not cook in Bigg Boss 19. “Winning Celebrity MasterChef and cooking for 20-25 people in Bigg Boss are two different things. I have been a part of both shows- Bigg Boss and Celebrity MasterChef. And let me tell you, I know how to cook Indian food. So that’s why when I went to Bigg Boss, I was one of the main cooks with Tejasswi and Nishant. And I used to cook for 25 people because I was used to cooking for so many people. I know how to cook for such huge quantities. Cooking in large quantities and preparing a single dish are two very different things.”
Further into the video, he said, “And cooking for 20 people in Bigg boss is very different. And he isn’t a restaurant chef. By the way, it was celebrity MasterChef. This was not a professional cook MasterChef. Some knew how to cook, some didn’t,” said Rajiv. He further stated that there’s no way Gaurav will be able to cook for 20 people as cooking on a mass scale is very different from preparing a single dish.
“He’s very artistic. Gaurav is an artist by profession, he knows how to plate food beautifully. On MasterChef, you’re judged on plating, taste, and presentation. All of these factors contributed to his victory. But cooking in large quantities is a whole different ball game,” Rajiv Adatia concluded. The actor’s team reshared his video on X and thanked him for his support. “Truth has been spoken, thankyou for standing by #GauravKhanna,” he said.
