Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X has addressed fans for the first time since his arrest in Los Angeles, assuring them that he is safe while acknowledging the ordeal was frightening. The 26-year-old musician, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was detained last week after police reported an incident in which he allegedly assaulted officers who encountered him walking naked on the street.

On Tuesday, the rapper used Instagram to deliver a brief message of reassurance. “Your girl is gonna be okay, y’all,” he wrote in a story, later adding, “That was terrifying, that was a terrifying last four days.” His remarks marked his first public statement following several days of legal and personal upheaval.

Authorities confirmed that after the incident, Lil Nas X was transported to a hospital for treatment linked to a possible overdose before being placed under arrest. He was formally charged with four felonies: three counts of battery on a police officer and one count of resisting an officer. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, he could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

The artist entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance on Monday. He was released later that day after posting bail of $75,000. As part of his release conditions, he has been directed to attend an outpatient drug rehabilitation program. Police stated they suspected drug use at the time of the incident, though his legal team disputes this claim.

His attorney, Christy O’Connor, said in a statement, “This is just an aberrant episode in an otherwise productive life.” She also maintained that there is no evidence to suggest drug use played a role in the case.

Family members have also spoken publicly in support of the musician. His father, Robert Stafford, described him as “very remorseful for what happened.” Speaking outside the courthouse, Stafford added, “He’s going to get the help that he needs. Just keep him in your prayers.”

Lil Nas X rose to international fame with his 2018 hit “Old Town Road,” a record-breaking single that earned him a Country Music Association Award and two Grammy Awards. He later became known not only for his music but also for his openness about his identity, becoming the first openly gay man to win at the CMA Awards.

The case now proceeds through the courts, with the rapper’s next hearing expected in the coming weeks.
