Mayoori Kango, remembered for the hit song Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, quit Bollywood at her peak. Today, she’s the CEO of Publicis Groupe’s Global Delivery.

Ghar Se Nikalte Hi star Mayoori Kango left Bollywood to build a new life in corporate leadership.
Many actors chase Bollywood stardom for years, but Mayoori Kango’s story unfolded differently. She became a household name overnight with the iconic track Ghar Se Nikalte Hi in the 90s. Just when her career was soaring, she took a decision that stunned the industry – she walked away from films to build a career in the corporate world.
Born into a family connected with theatre, Mayoori stepped into cinema almost by chance. While visiting her mother in Mumbai, she crossed paths with filmmaker Saeed Akhtar Mirza, who offered her a role in the 1995 film Naseem. Initially hesitant because of her board exams, she eventually accepted the part – a choice that led her to Mahesh Bhatt. Impressed by her talent, Bhatt cast her as the lead in Papa Kehte Hai (1996). Though the film’s box office fate was modest, her performance received warm praise.
Over the next few years, Mayoori worked in Betaabi, Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet with Ajay Devgn, Vamsi with Mahesh Babu, and Badal opposite Bobby Deol and Rani Mukerji. She also became a familiar face on TV through shows like Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat, Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny, Kkusum and Rangoli.
Yet, despite a busy career, she chose a very different path. In 2003, she married NRI Aditya Dhillon and shifted to the United States. There, she returned to studies, earning an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Baruch College, New York, in 2007. That leap set the stage for her corporate journey. After serving key roles, including at Google India, she has now risen to become the CEO of Publicis Groupe’s Global Delivery.
