Lily Collins and her team have reportedly resumed the Emily in Paris shoot in Italy, just two days after the tragic death of the show’s assistant director, Diego Borella, on the set of the show. He was reportedly in charge of filming the final episodes of the show.
As reported by People magazine, Lily Collins and her co-stars were spotted shooting scenes in Venice on Saturday, August 23, following the sudden passing of Diego Borella earlier in the week. Collins, 36, who headlines the popular Netflix rom-com, was seen aboard a boat with cast members Eugenio Franceschini, Ashley Park, and Paul Forman as production for the fifth season continued.
Filming for Emily In Paris had only recently kicked off in Italy on August 15, with the schedule set to wrap up by August 25 ahead of the season’s planned Netflix release on December 18. The show’s makers haven’t issued any official statement on Diego Borella’s demise.
Diego Borella died on Emily in Paris 5 sets
Diego Borella, who worked as an assistant director on Netflix’s Emily in Paris, reportedly died while working on the show’s fifth season in Italy. He was 47.
It was reported that Borella collapsed around 7:00 pm on Friday, August 22, during preparations for a final scene at the Hotel Danieli in Venice. Medical staff on set tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, claimed Italian outlets La Repubblica, Il Messaggero, and Corriere della Sera.
While the exact reason behind Diego Borella’s death hasn’t been revealed yet, a local doctor later confirmed that the assistant director most likely suffered a sudden heart attack, according to La Repubblica. Paramedics were called on the sets, however, Borella couldn’t be saved.
The emergency call was later confirmed by Venice health service. “Our ambulance arrived at 18.42 (on Thursday evening). Medics made attempts to resuscitate him. But in the end, all efforts proved fruitless. At around 19.30, he was pronounced deceased,” officials said, The Independent reported.
Meanwhile, Emily In Paris returns for a fifth season on December 18. The show’s storyline has now moved to Italy from Paris. Recently, the show’s official Instagram page dropped new stills from the upcoming season, leaving fans excited for the new twists and turns in Emily Cooper’s life.
