Diego Borella, who worked as an assistant director on Netflix’s Emily in Paris, reportedly died while working on the show’s fifth season in Italy. He was 47. The film and television community is mourning the sudden loss.
It was reported that Diego Borella collapsed around 7:00 pm on Friday, August 22, during preparations for a final scene at the Hotel Danieli in Venice. Medical staff on set tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, claimed Italian outlets La Repubblica, Il Messaggero, and Corriere della Sera.
While the exact reason behind Diego Borella’s death hasn’t been revealed yet, a local doctor later confirmed that the assistant director most likely suffered a sudden heart attack, according to La Repubblica. Paramedics were called on the sets, however, Borella couldn’t be saved.
The emergency call was later confirmed by Venice health service. “Our ambulance arrived at 18.42 (on Thursday evening). Medics made attempts to resuscitate him. But in the end, all efforts proved fruitless. At around 19.30, he was pronounced deceased,” officials said, The Independent reported.
The outlet stated that filming was scheduled to conclude on Monday, August 25, with Borella supervising the final scene. However, production has now come to a halt owing to the on-set tragedy. The Netflix show’s team has yet to issue an official statement on Diego Borella’s demise.
