Known for his iconic roles in films such as Mel Karade Rabba (2010), Carry On Jatta (2012), and Jatt & Juliet (2012), Jaswinder Bhalla’s death marks the end of an era for many fans and colleagues alike.
A Multifaceted Career
In addition to his acting career, Jaswinder Bhalla was deeply involved in academics. He joined Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in 1989 as a lecturer in Agricultural Extension Education and retired as the Head of the Department in 2020.
He was particularly well-known for his appearance on the long-running series of Punjabi comedy video albums Chhankata, where he portrayed the iconic character Chacha Chatra. In fact, he first entered acting in 1988, with Chhankata, starring alongside Bal Mukand Sharma and Neelu. The character of Chacha Chatra made him a household name in Punjab, and he became a key figure in the Punjabi comedy scene.

Jaswinder Bhalla’s academic background was equally impressive. He earned a BSc in Agriculture (Hons) in 1982 and an MSc in Extension Education in 1985 from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Before joining PAU, he worked for five years as an Agricultural Instructor/Development Officer in the Department of Agriculture, Punjab.
Later, he pursued a PhD in Agricultural Extension from CCS University, Meerut, completing it in 2000.

Jaswinder Bhalla, who had been battling illness for some time, breathed his last on Friday at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, Punjab. He was 65 years old at the time of his passing. His last rites will take place on Saturday in Balongi, Mohali, Punjab.
