Director AR Murugadoss revealed he had once pitched Madharaasi to Shah Rukh Khan years ago. SRK was interested, but the project never took off due to delays.

Shah Rukh Khan and AR Murugadoss were supossed to do Madharaasi together.
Director AR Murugadoss’ upcoming Tamil film Madharaasi is making quite a buzz. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role and is all set to hit theatres on September 5. While the release of the film is not even a month away, the filmmaker has revealed that he had plans of making this film in Hindi and with none other than the Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan.
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker revealed that the chatter around his plans of casting Shah Rukh are indeed true and the actor was keen on doing it as well. Murugadoss revealed, “I didn’t plan the whole film with Shah Rukh Khan, but I did pitch the character to him long back. I told him 7–8 years ago, and even he liked it.”
“Back then, I only had the character… just an idea, not the full script. After watching the movie, you’ll realise what I meant by character. At that time, cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran arranged a meeting for me with Shah Rukh. He was so sweet and said we’ll do the film. But the delay was very long, which is why it never materialised,” he further explained.
About Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh was last seen in the 2023 films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He is now shooting for Siddharth Anand’s King with his daughter Suhana Khan. The actor will also make a special appearance in his son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut series Ba***ds of Bollywood. The first look from Ba***ds of Bollywood was dropped on August 17, laying the groundwork for a preview release on August 20.
About AR Murugadoss
AR Murugadoss recently directed Sikandar starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna. The movie didn’t do well at the box office, and taking responsibility for the film’s failure, he said, “It’s about a king who doesn’t truly understand his wife. Many of us are like that — whether it’s with our mother, wife, or friends, we don’t value relationships until they’re gone. In the film, after the king loses his wife, her organs are donated to three people. He then seeks them out to fulfil what he couldn’t do for her. In the process, he befriends an entire village. The story had heart, but I couldn’t execute it well.”
AR Murugadoss returned to Bollywood with Sikandar after nine years. His previous Hindi film was Akira.
