Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut recently opened up about her childhood, recalling that she was not okay with many things, particularly the way she was treated. She said that when families would gather and talk, there were often ‘demeaning’ remarks made about girls, even within their own families. She recalled that conversations would include criticizing the girls’ manners, and blaming parents for not teaching them properly. The actress also revealed that her father used to really ‘demean’ her by saying that she would have to study hard to marry into a ‘good’ family.

In a conversation with Hauterrfly, Kangana Ranaut said, “My father used to be like- ‘Tumhe toh bohot padhai karni padegi agar tumhe chahiye ki tumhaari shaadi aise ghar mein ho. He used to really demean me ki ‘Padhogi nahi to aage nahi badhogi and you won’t be able to find a good life partner’. (My father used to say, ‘You’ll have to study really hard if you want to marry into a good family.’ He used to really demean me, saying, ‘If you don’t study, you won’t move ahead,’ or ‘You won’t be able to find a good life partner’).”

She further added that she was very clear that she did not envision that kind of a life for herself. “Mujhe ek baat pata thi ki wo jis tarah ka life offer kar rahe hain, even bohot achha hai, but mujhe he nahi chahiye. Thank you very much. (But one thing I knew — the kind of life he was offering me, even if it was really good… I just didn’t want it),” said Kangana.

She further added that taking accountability for one’s own dreams is really necessary. “This is what I want to say to Gen Z, because it wasn’t really a problem for millennials. If it’s your dream, whatever that dream may be, it is your dream, and you have to take complete responsibility for it. That you have to earn it. Not your husband, not your father or mother or some friend,” said Kangana.

On the professional front, Kangana was last seen in Emergency, a film she directed, co-produced, and wrote.
