Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest outing Coolie continues its box office juggernaut. After smashing Kollywood records on its opening day, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial showed a solid hold on day 2, thanks in part to the Independence Day holiday. The film earned Rs 44.8 crore net in India on Friday, taking its total to Rs 109.8 crore in just two days.
With this, Coolie becomes the fastest Tamil film to enter the Rs 100 crore club, overtaking blockbusters like Leo and 2.0, which achieved the mark on their third day.
Coolie vs War 2: Box Office Race Tightens
On day 2, Coolie saw slightly reduced numbers in Tamil and Telugu markets, but its Hindi version registered a small rise compared to opening day. Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 is proving to be a formidable competitor. After collecting Rs 51.5 crore on day 1, the action thriller brought in Rs 55.79 crore on Friday, taking its total to Rs 107.29 crore.
With just Rs 2.5 crore separating the two blockbusters after two days, the race for weekend supremacy is one of the tightest in recent box office history.
Worldwide Success For Rajinikanth’s Coolie
Overseas, Coolie has registered phenomenal numbers. The film collected nearly $8 million on day 1 outside India. According to Sun Pictures, Rajinikanth’s mass entertainer recorded a worldwide gross of Rs 151 crore on its opening day alone. This is now the biggest-ever opening for a Tamil film and the seventh-highest for any Indian movie.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie stars Rajinikanth in the lead with Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra in key roles, plus a cameo by Aamir Khan. While critics have shared mixed-to-positive reviews, the audience response remains exceptional, with full houses across major territories.
With its Rs 109 crore domestic haul and record-breaking worldwide opening, Coolie is poised to dominate the box office in the days ahead.
