War 2 Box Office Day 1: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani’s high-octane spy thriller War 2 hit theatres on August 14, coinciding with the release of Rajinikanth’s Coolie. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film opened to solid box office numbers despite clashing with another massive release. Fans flocked to theatres to watch the action-packed drama, curious to see Hrithik and Jr NTR share the screen for the first time.
Despite mixed critical reviews, War 2 managed a strong Day 1 collection, proving the pull of its star cast and YRF branding.
War 2 Day 1 Box Office Report
According to early estimates from Sacnilk, War 2 earned Rs 52.50 crore on its opening day across all languages. The Hindi version led the collections with Rs 29 crore, while Telugu contributed Rs 23.25 crore, and a minor Rs 0.25 crore came from other languages.
While these numbers are impressive, Coolie edged ahead on Day 1, grossing around Rs 65 crore in India. Industry watchers are now keen to see how both films perform over the extended Independence Day weekend, with audiences split between Rajinikanth’s mass entertainer and the YRF spy universe sequel.
Jr NTR, in an official statement, reflected on his collaboration with Hrithik Roshan, saying, “I think mine and Hrithik Roshan garu’s careers started at the same time. When I watched Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai long back, I went mad. He is one of the greatest dancers in the country right now. My journey started off by admiring him. After all these years, I got the chance to act and dance with him.”
The film also features notable supporting actors including Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, and a cameo by Bobby Deol, marking his introduction in Alpha and the expanding YRF spy universe.
War 2: Audience Response And Critical Take
War 2 has been widely praised for the on-screen chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. News18 Showsha’s review noted, “Hrithik is in his comfort zone and he gives it his all to make Kabir earnest and charismatic. Jr NTR seems like the perfect fit for Vikram/Raghu as he gets to play to his strengths. He needed a larger-than-life image and a back story to justify his ambitions, and the makers provided him so. He matches Hrithik’s intensity in equal measure, creating a magnetic interplay that turns every shared moment into a collision of tension and charm. Their chemistry is the kind that sparks scenes alive, making even dialogue-free sequences throbbing with unspoken energy. In a nutshell, Jr NTR’s foray into Bollywood territory is nothing short of electric. And Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana render ample support to them.”
The film’s action sequences, high production value, and the novelty of Hrithik-Roshan-Jr NTR collaboration have helped War 2 start strong despite the fierce competition from Coolie. With audience curiosity high, box office numbers are expected to rise further in the coming days.
