Coolie Movie Review: Rajinikanth is back! The legendary actor proves why he has been the swag king in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie. The film showcases the charismatic Rajini that we have missed on screen for a while now. Kanagaraj has managed to bring the swag back with Rajinikanth making a power-packed comeback. There’s only one way you can enjoy the film — enter a theatre filled with fans of Thaialvar, as he is famously called, and be one among them and enjoy the massy dialogues, Rajini’s famous cigarette flip, sharp walks and a swag that keeps reminding you who is the boss.
As much as we love watching vintage Rajinikanth back on screen, it will be unfair not to address the effort of other actors that make the film a must-watch. Here are some of the highlight roles that make Coolie the banger of the year.
Nagarjuna Akkineni as Simon:
If Rajinikanth is the perfect hero, Nagarjuna is the perfect antagonist in the film. It won’t be wrong to say that the legendary actor is the backbone of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s movie. Though it took some time for the director to get him on board, Nagarjuna is the perfect villain who can stand neck-to-neck with Rajinikanth throughout the film.
Soubin Shahir as Dayal:
The surprise package in every sense is Soubin, who brings the much-needed dark shade to the movie. The story needs him as much as it needs Rajinikanth. Yes, he’s that important, and he has aced his character like always! His performance makes you believe that he’s that psychotic killer who is about to rule the world.
Shruti Haasan as Preethi:
Sharing equal screen space in the film is Shruti Haasan. Bringing the right amount of emotion, she has done justice to the character and plays a vital role in the plot twists. Haasan’s charm, glamour and acting positively elevate the film.
The script:
As much as the action and Rajinikanth’s swag dominate the film, what impresses is the screenplay and story. The plot twists are nothing short of impressive. Though a little predictable, the story flows in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The climax is packed not just with action, but the famous cameo appearance by Aamir Khan. The plot twists don’t end there. Wait till you watch the tail-end scene to be taken back in time. Overall, Lokesh Kanagaraj has managed to bring a banger to the theatres that need to be enjoyed on the big screen with a hall filled with Rajini fans.
