The Rakhi Bandhan festival was celebrated recently, a day when women traditionally tie a rakhi on the wrists of their brothers or grandfathers, including symbolic ones. In a remarkable twist of fate, one woman tied a rakhi on her symbolic grandfather, who later became her husband and the father of her children. Although he was already married with two children, he fell in love with the actress. This is reportedly why Boney Kapoor’s mother advised Sridevi to tie a rakhi on producer Boney Kapoor’s wrist.

Boney Kapoor’s mother sensed Sridevi’s feelings. On Rakhi Bandhan, she placed a rakhi on the puja plate and asked Sridevi to tie it on Boney Kapoor’s wrist. Growing up in South India, Sridevi was familiar with the festival, but the suggestion reportedly made her face turn pale.

Boney Kapoor’s first wife was Mona Shourie, with whom he had two children, Arjun and Anshula Kapoor. Arjun later revealed that his father’s second marriage caused him emotional strain, though he shares a close bond with Boney’s daughters from the second marriage, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. In fact, Sridevi became pregnant with Boney’s child before their marriage, a fact that quickly became public.

Boney Kapoor later revealed that he had secretly married Sridevi on 2 June 1996. They announced their marriage in January 1997, and in March of that year, their eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor was born. The revelation came to light when Sridevi showed signs of pregnancy.

Boney provided further details about their marriage, stating that they wed secretly in Shirdi and went on their honeymoon the same day, which resulted in Sridevi’s quick pregnancy. Given that Boney was already married, he waited about six months to announce his second marriage. In a conversation with a YouTuber, Boney claimed, “Sridevi was very religious in nature. As a result, she would not have agreed to get married while pregnant. That is why the actress did not want to have any other wedding ceremony after the secret marriage.”

Incidentally, Sridevi’s two children, Janhvi and Khushi, were able to establish themselves in the film industry because of their parents. Janhvi once mentioned that she and her sister grew up under strict rules imposed by their mother during their childhood.
